Who are Lions?

Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world.

Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.

Beginning in 1917, the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities.  Lions continue to make a difference everyday and everywhere.

The Corrales Sandoval Lions Club believes strongly in making a difference in our community everyday.

Our most pressing project is Kid Sight.  This project that is being spearhead by the Corrales Sandoval Lions Club will eventually reach out to every pre-school child through out the county and make eye disease screening available at no cost to parents.  It is estimated that some form of eye disease can affect as many as 28% of our youngest citizens.  If caught early, future eyesight disease can be prevented in a large number of cases.

With the assistance of the Cottonwood Walmart, our fundraising received a major boost early this year.

We hope to be able to fully implement this this program in 2008 and further expand the age group in 2009.

The Corrales Sandoval Lions Club has also collected several thousand pre-owned eyeglasses.  These are recycled for use by individuals internationally and in New Mexico who can not otherwise afford glasses.  If you have eye glasses at home that you no longer need, the Club has collection boxes at several merchants in town as well as the Corrales Library.

The Club has also assisted individuals that needed eyesurgery and did not have insurance.  The LCIF donated $10,000 to relief efforts in Eastern New Mexico when tornados caused so much damage there.

The Club is not political, it does not sponsor or endorse any political party or local, state, or national policy.  The sole purpose is to serve the community..... and have a little fun doing that.

Your assistance in helping to fund our projects is appreciated.  Watch this space for how.
